Volunteer Spotlight: Iris Robinson

Iris Robinson, thank you for your volunteer service at Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater!
• Volunteer since 2012

• Serves in Chesapeake as Administrative Receptionist

• Attends Ebenezer Baptist Church

Iris Robinson is a dependable servant who exemplifies poise, grace and excellence. CPC’s President Toby DeBause remarks, “If I see Iris, I know it’s Friday.” Because of the excellence and quality she brings to the position, CPC’s admin staff does not hesitate to request her help in training new receptionists.
Iris is here to help in whatever way she can, with no need for fanfare or recognition. She has a knack for seeing a need before it has been spoken and taking whatever steps are necessary to handle it. In addition to her positive attitude, she encourages those around her by the constant, quiet prayers and Scripture reading she does when work is slow. Iris, you have been an enormous blessing to the ministry of CPC — we are grateful for your service and keep you in prayer!

If you are interested in joining CPC's volunteer network, register to attend CPC 101 on November 6! Connect with our volunteer manager, Lisa, at lisa@cpcot.org or www.cpcfriends.org/volunteer for more details.

Volunteer Spotlight: Richard Ryan

  • Volunteer since 2011
  • Serves all locations as Chaplain and Special Events Support
  • Attends Virginia Beach Community Chapel

Chaplain Rich Ryan is always willing to adjust his schedule to serve. He is interested in the volunteers working with him and engages them in conversation. His value for LIFE and relationships is readily apparent. In addition to serving at special events with a quiet spirit of kindness, Rich uses his role as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy to support our military clients who are experiencing a crisis pregnancy, as well as other difficulties in their lives. As one staff member stated, “He’s one of the good guys – one who really cares.” Thank you, Chaplain Ryan, for going above the call of duty to serve our Heavenly Father through CPC’s ministry!

June Prayer Focus

PLEASE PRAY   CPC humbly requests your intentional prayer for:
SUMMER EVENT   CPC is making plans for a new fund-raising event this summer to help offset recent donation shortfalls. Please join us in going before the Lord to seek guidance and wisdom in this planning process. Pray this event would bring glory to His name and much needed support for the life-affirming ministry at CPC.
VOLUNTEERS   In May, 27 new volunteers began training to serve in numerous areas of CPC’s ministry. Please pray for these individuals to be trained quickly and effectively.
COURAGEOUS MOVIE NIGHT   CPC is hosting a movie outreach event for the men involved with the women we serve. Please pray for strong attendance! Also, pray for hearts to open to the Gospel and mentor relationships. Several men’s groups from local churches have volunteered to make themselves available as mentors. This is a very important night - we covet your prayers!

If you're interested in getting involved by donating door prizes, call 757.410.9703 or email Tammy before June 11th for more details.

February Prayer Focus

PLEASE PRAY   CPC humbly requests your intentional prayer for:
NEW NURSE MANAGER   Our medical clinics continue to minister to more women in our community. The need for additional medical staff was critical and God supplied again! Please keep our newest nurse manager, Lisa, in prayer as she completes intensive sonography training and prepares for the opportunity to reveal LIFE and truth to our clients.
DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS   Our next session of volunteer training begins on February 7. Our ministry has a very real need for additional call center advocates, data entry volunteers and receptionists in multiple locations. Please pray many will come forward to serve our Lord Jesus Christ and share the gospel through this life-affirming ministry.
INTERCESSION   Please pray for strength and mercy to cover our numerous staff members who are walking through difficult circumstances.

Answering The Call

“Keim Center for pregnancy decisions.  How may I help you?”
In 2010, Cathy and her team of devoted volunteers uttered these words more than 4,000 times while answering the helpline in our call center.  Available 24 hours a day, the helpline is a vital link between potential clients and their appointment in one of our four locations.
“We’re the voice of The Keim Centers.  Not only do we answer the phones and book appointments, but we often establish the client’s first impression of our organization,” says Cathy, call center manager.
Call center volunteers are warm, welcoming women who have been “super trained” to serve on the front lines of our ministry.  Every call is different, but the desired outcome is the same – connect with the caller and share resources that are of value to her.
In voluntary surveys collected after each appointment, our clients repeatedly share how comfortable they felt and how thankful they were to have someone non-judgmental to talk with about their situation, writing comments like, “I had a very enjoyable experience, the staff was very friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely concerned about me.”
This authentic compassion begins in the call center.  Each four-hour volunteer shift begins with a short devotion and prayer.
“We pray for the phones to ring, and that surprises people,” Cathy shares.  “We know women are considering abortion, and we want them to find our number.  I pray they find our words inviting, and that God speaks through us – touches them.  We pray they make appointments.  And we pray for the advocates who will be seeing them – we’re part of a team.  We pray for women to find the truth.  It’s not our words – it’s what God does with those words in the caller.  The callers are different, but our words are always the same.  It’s not us.  Call center volunteers are not responsible if the woman makes the appointment or not, but they’re responsible to offer the invitation.”
The call center is an essential element of CPC’s ministry to serve women unprepared for pregnancy.  To run the call center at minimum capacity, 10 volunteer shifts require manning each week.  Currently, we have volunteers committed to only 6 of these shifts.  We pray many volunteers will step forward to help fill this void.
What about you – is this your calling?  Will you be a caring voice on the other end of the phone?
To learn more about plugging into the call center, or numerous other volunteer opportunities within CPC’s ministry, our next volunteer training session begins in less than two weeks.  Contact Angie at afreeman@cpcot.org or 757.410.9703 for more information on how to get involved.

September Prayer Focus

PLEASE PRAY   CPC humbly requests your intentional prayer for:

CLIENTS FACING DIFFICULT LIFE CIRCUMSTANCES   Our hearts are often heavy for women facing difficult life circumstances. We know our Lord, Jesus Christ, is the answer to all their needs. We pray they come to this life-changing knowledge.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS   Our next session of volunteer training begins in September. Please pray many will step forward as much-needed call center volunteers – compassionate women who serve on the front lines of our ministry.

PROTECTION AND STRENGTH   Everyday we are reminded through challenges, obstacles and hardships that the enemy does not want CPC to continue sharing truth and hope with hurting families. In the past few weeks, there have been numerous and very difficult hardships, including 4-year-old Sawyer, the son of our President Toby DeBause, who has kidney failure and is on dialysis daily. (For more info and updates, visit http://www.debause.com/.) We know that Jesus Christ is our Protector, our Strength and Victor! Please pray for great protection for our staff and volunteers as they faithfully serve.

Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteer Spotlight on SIDRA CRUNDEN, serving with our Development Team

Sidra received the support of her family when she decided to devote her time to volunteering with CPC about two years ago. After attending the annual benefit banquet, Sidra knew she had to get involved. She has since transported Great Expectations materials from Virginia Beach to Norfolk; and worked with the Development Team as the special assistant for each of the Walk for Life events, The President’s Club Celebration and, most recently, during An Evening with Rebecca St. James and the Silver Anniversary Benefit Banquet. Her involvement as the special assistant for the Walk and Rebecca St. James events took her very much above and beyond, requiring her well-developed organizational skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to be inventive, personable, and multi-task. Sidra is great at anticipating a need and fulfilling it. She is a huge asset to our ministry. We are blessed Sidra came our way!

Do you want to get involved?  Here's how!
