May Prayer Focus

May 2013 Prayer Focus
EMBRACING MOTHERHOOD   This year, we pray for hundreds of new moms in South Hampton Roads to experience God’s grace, mercy, hope and truth through the ministry of CPC. We pray for all mothers to embrace their important role. As soon as motherhood is embraced, life is protected.

DEPRAVITY OF CULTURE   Paul writes in Romans 8:26, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” We don’t have the right words to pray for the depravity of our culture. We groan, and we also ask for our Lord Jesus Christ to help us prevent decay. Let us be salt (Matthew 5:13, Colossians 4:6) in each encounter with lifestyle choices and life decisions, including gender selection abortions.

PRAY FOR CPC’S EXPECTANT MOTHERS AND THEIR LITTLE ONES.   Their names* and due dates are listed below.
*Some of the names have been changed to protect the identities of our clients.

WFL Spotlight: Greenbrier Christian Academy

Greenbrier Christian Academy at CPC's Walk for Life 2012
Last year, Greenbrier Christian Academy (GCA) claimed the “Top School” award for raising funds for CPC’s Walk for Life. Even though this year’s Walk for Life season is almost complete, they’re still working hard this week to retain their title with some fun, innovative ways to raise “as much money as possible.”

Tomorrow, GCA is hosting a jeans day during the day and a basketball tournament in the evening.  All money donated for jeans or basketball teams benefits CPC.  (We’ve also heard GCA has some strong basketball talent, so we’re sure the half-court contest and knock-out game will be entertaining for everyone!)

We’re looking forward to seeing lots of GCA gator gear at the final Walk for Life event this Saturday at The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk – we’re grateful to lift up LIFE with you!  It's still not too late if you'd like to join them as a fund-raising walker - just register today at www.cpcfriends.org/walk!

A Mission Field in South Hampton Roads

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." - Matthew 9:36-38

With thousands of abortions happening each year in South Hampton Roads, our community is a critical mission field! Through the ministry of CPC, hearts are being spared, lives are being saved and the Gospel is being shared.

However, in order to continue introducing families to Christ and providing valuable services at no cost to our clients, we need you.

FINAL CONTEST:
Have 10 or more pledges & donations?

CPC's Walk for Life 2013Right now, less than half of all registered walkers are raising funds. There are just 3 days left until the final Walk for Life, and the ministry is depending on these numbers to turn around.

We have trusted this harvest to the Lord. Will you be one of His workers, asking for pledges in this last push?

Each fund-raising walker at The Virginia Zoo with 10 or more pledges and donations will receive a FREE $16 wash card from Freedom Wash!

(Know someone who still needs to register? Send them to www.cpcfriends.org/walk!)

Anything you can to do help raise funds to SAVE LIVES is critical!

It's closed.

Toby DeBause, President of Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater
Dear Friends,

On Saturday, an abortion facility closed in South Hampton Roads.

Hillcrest Clinic opened more than 40 years ago, shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court decriminalized abortion in 1973.  Since that time there have been thousands upon thousands of children who have lost their lives in that Norfolk location.  Thousands upon thousands of times, motherhood was ripped from the wombs of women who were lost, confused and deceived by a culture that no longer considers human life sacred.

Very few local media outlets are covering this story and those that are have not mentioned the children who died in Hillcrest.  There are no memorials for these children.  Their mothers went into Hillcrest unnoticed except for the few people who stood outside praying for them and their children.  This is a sad reality, but be sure that there was neither one life lost nor one heart broken that escaped the attention of God Almighty.

For more than a decade, the number of abortions skyrocketed to the point where South Hampton Roads was the number one region for abortions performed in Virginia.  However, for the last eight years, the number has plummeted and we just learned there was a record decrease in 2012.  Hillcrest cited the decline in abortions as one of the reasons why they are closing.

More abortion facilities will close when more mothers and children are rescued
.  Let’s continue to intervene and to speak up for the most vulnerable and defenseless in our community.  As we speak up for the least of these, we are speaking up for Jesus Christ as he identifies himself with them.  (Matthew 25:45)  There is no group of people more “less than” children on their way to the abortion clinic.

God is moving!  Light is piercing through this dark culture that embraces death.  I pray it gets brighter.  Abortion will not go away on this side of Christ’s return, but it can continue to diminish as we keep shining the light into the darkness.
For LIFE with you,

Lifting up LIFE with Laura

Sponsor Laura at http://walkforlife.cpcfriends.org/lauraDear Friends,

While attending college, Laura found herself pregnant and alone, with no support from the father of the baby.  Even though she had always considered herself pro-life, when faced with her own crisis pregnancy, she considered abortion.

At the urging of her sister, Laura went to one of CPC’s Keim Centers, saw an ultrasound of her baby girl and changed her mind about having the abortion.

Recently, Laura shared her story at CPC’s annual Pre-Walk Rally.  Her precious 11 month old baby, Eloise, waved to the crowd as Laura tearfully but joyfully shared, “Seeing my daughter’s heartbeat for the first time on the sonogram at The Keim Center forced me to face a reality I was trying to deny.  It changed my life forever, allowing me to give life to my daughter and bring her joy into our world.”

Laura embraced life for Eloise and now she is lifting up LIFE as a fund-raising walker for CPC’s Walk for Life!  Laura wants other women like her to receive the love and support she received through pregnancy center ministry.

Since this is the month for CPC’s Walk for Life, I hope you too will participate in one of our Walk events as a fund-raising walker.  This is one of CPC’s largest annual fundraisers.  It’s not too late for you to take part.  You can register online at cpcfriends.org/walk.

If you can’t Walk for Life this year, consider sponsoring Laura.  This would be a huge encouragement to her and to the ministry of CPC.  You can sponsor Laura by placing your donation in the envelope provided with this letter or you can go directly to Laura’s Walk for Life webpage at walkforlife.cpcfriends.org/laura.  There, you can give an online donation and send a personal message to Laura.  I know it would be a tremendous blessing for her to hear from you.

Thank you for supporting CPC!  Laura and her daughter, Eloise, represent thousands of women and children helped by this ministry.  We are grateful for you!

Walking to save lives and spare hearts,
Toby DeBause, President of Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater

It's Personal

Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater's Walk for Life 2013
We are so grateful for our fundraising walkers and their commitment to help moms and their pre-born babies by raising funds in this year’s Walk for Life.  The ministry of CPC depends on this event to continue its mission to save lives, spare hearts and further the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Because you are in this with us, we wanted you to know about a challenge we are facing.  As of today, we're only aware of $44,375.25 raised so far in pledges and donations. Our goal is $250,000, which is critical to this year's budget.

It’s personal.
The number one way you can help is by personally asking for pledges from the people you know.  Call your friends.  Ask your neighbors.  Go to the small groups you are involved in.  Send a personal email (see template at www.cpcfriends.org/email).  And when you do these things, ask these people to make a pledge of any amount to sponsor you as you Walk for Life.

It’s easier to ask for a pledge than to ask for money.  You don’t have to collect money.  Simply write the pledge amount, name and address of the person making the pledge under “BILL ME.”  Click here to print an additional copy of the fundraising form if you need it.  Turn in your completed form at the Walk for Life and we will mail a pledge reminder to your sponsors.  If you’ve recorded donations and pledges on your fundraising website, you don’t need to duplicate them on the form.

Facebook is a great way of letting people know you are Walking for Life, but very few people experience success at getting pledges by only posting on Facebook or other social networks.  Nothing beats a personal invitation from you to support this great cause.

GOD is using YOU to SAVE LIVES!
Again, thank you for being a Fundraising Walker!  By personally asking for pledges, you are helping CPC reach its Walk for Life goal and keep CPC’s LIFE affirming pregnancy medical clinics and resource centers open and available at no charge to women and families in Hampton Roads.

For LIFE with you,

Urgent Message from Toby

Toby DeBause, President of Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater
When people ask me, "Where does CPC get their money from?" I always start where we don't receive funds.

Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater isn't the recipient of  federal grants or allocations. And there's no national headquarters to depend on for quarterly installments.

As a Christ-centered ministry, we rely on God to move hearts. All of our funds come from people like you who care about His ministry, His people, His babies.

That's why the Walk for Life is so important. And that's why we need to let you know the challenge we're facing today.

As we are well into our Walk for Life campaign, we're only aware of $38,304.25 raised so far in pledges and donations. Our goal is $250,000, which is critical to this year's budget.

You are critical to meeting the needs of the moms and babies the Lord has entrusted to us.

There is only a short time left. If you haven't registered, do so today at www.cpcfriends.org/walk. And if you have registered as a fund-raising walker, thank you and please continue getting pledges from your friends and family. You are saving lives!

For LIFE with you,

Toby DeBause, President

P.S. - Remember, all you need to do is obtain a pledge. We make it easy by mailing donors a pledge statement after the Walk - you do NOT need to collect funds!

Join us at the Oceanfront

WFL Spotlight: Deep Creek Baptist Church

Deep Creek Baptist Church promotes CPC's Walk for Life!
It's been so exciting to hear what the local body of Christ is doing to spread the word about CPC's Walk for Life!

Deep Creek Baptist Church in Chesapeake is teaming their youth and adults together in a creative way. During Sunday School, the youth are visiting the adult classes to share about the Walk for Life and ask if the adults will help them raise funds.

With the adults' help, the youth are taking their church above and beyond the 7 Walker Challenge - what an awesome example!

As you may have noticed, we still have work to do to reach the goal of 1,000 fund-raising walkers - we need your help now more than ever! Continue asking others to become fund-raising walkers with you and encourage them to register online at www.cpcfriends.org/walk

There are two Sundays left until the final Walk for Life event. If you need additional resources to help promote the walk, let Katelyn know today!

Volunteer Spotlight: Ida Compton

Volunteer Spotlight: Ida Compton

• Volunteer since 2008

• Serves in Chesapeake with Life Support Services

• Attends First Baptist Church of Norfolk

Ida Compton is an invaluable part of our team of volunteers, demonstrating a true heart of service. She serves selflessly, responding to a last-minute request or even going so far as to plan her family vacation around projected needs. She serves sacrificially, working 8-10 hour days back-to-back during busy seasons without complaint. She serves demonstratively, often drafting one or more of her children to help. She also serves with excellence, taking initiative to ensure all work is done accurately, completely, and to the absolute best of her ability. Ida is a joy to know, and a blessing to the ministry!

WFL Spotlight: Tabernacle Church of Norfolk

Pastor Kenny Bryant,
Tabernacle Church of Norfolk
Tabernacle Church of Norfolk is getting creative to encourage members of their congregation to register online and begin raising money for CPC's Walk for Life.

Wednesday's contest to encourage online registration was a big success. Pastor Kenny Bryant and several liaisons at Tab Church were also excited about the contest and decided to hold one of their own this Sunday. The first 38 people who commit to raise $175 or more and register online at the Walk for Life info table in their lobby will win a free Chick-fil-A sandwich coupon!

Contests are a very fun and creative way to get more people involved in helping the ministry of Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater.

Can your church still help?

Yes! There are still three Sundays until the final Walk for Life event - let your congregation know how to get involved with some of our free resources. Speakers and info tables are also available - connect with Katelyn if you're interested!
